Results of the 1st Hermit Pass runs as of SEPT 20, 2015:
The first ever Hermit Pass Marathon, Half Hermit and Lucky Hermit 13K is now history! We had beautiful weather, a great group of runners, dedicated and hard working volunteers, and really good food after the run.
The marathon started right at 7:30am, and a group of 15 runners headed out on their long adventure. At the top of the pass, they encountered about 20 mph winds and so were escorted to the summit and then back down by our top of the pass team of John Peleaux and Tom Shepard. Then came the long treacherous descent, and the long road around the valley to the finish. Coming in first was Mick Backsen with a time of 5:16.02; second was Mason McClatchey at 5:42.30; and third was David Karp at 6:18.32. The first woman in was Jennifer Aguirre with a time of 6:25.36; second was Zenia Begay at 7:16.25 and 3rd was Kari Taylor at 8:08.31.
The Half Hermit started promptly at 9am. and a field of 19 runners headed off up Hermit Pass Road, turning around at 10,300 ft. after a mile or so of the rocky rutted road that makes the Hermit Pass run so tough. Finishing first was Gerald Romero with a time of 1:52.40; second was Eugene Saghi at 2:24.28, and the first place woman was Trina Ehrenberg with a time of 2:26.18. Second place woman was Amarillo Rucaj at 2:37.21.
The Lucky Hermit 13K field was small but eager. First place went to Sean Staples with a time of 1:11.49 and the first place woman was Jewel Heisig at 1:18.16.
